#grid

#grid is a tiny jQuery plugin for the rest of us. What does it do?

It inserts a layout grid in web pages, allows you to hold it in place, and toggle between displaying it in the foreground or background.

I am not a fan of JavaScript plugins. I always try to avoid it unless it really enhances a website. But this is a jewel. An invisible one.

If you are a Web developer/designer, don’t miss #grid.

The Library of human imagination

At times your life becomes darker and carry less hope. It happens, right?

While curating High Quality Bookmarks I met the Library of Human Imagination. It is a real library which aims to get us closer to the human nature, the good and evil, the beauty and the ugliness of humanity. There are some ways to define “evolution”, but no matter what you’ll say about it, it will remain part of human nature. And I loved this project.

This library is a reason to get a grip and move on. Yes, I must visit it once.

Since there’s no website of the library, I embed a video from TED 2008, where the man behind it, Mr. Jay Walker, presents it to us for the first time.

(Yes, it’s an vulgar Flash embedment.)

Read also an interview of Jay Walker and the relevant article on WIRED.

Best. Wallpaper. Ever.

  • Colors you can’t forget
  • Excellent typography
  • A message for our inner monster

OK, here it is the best wallpaper ever.

Haters, they are gonna hate

Oh, you might have seen this wallpapers on Zeldman’s website, but I swear I saw it first! So it belongs to me!

Anyway, I never liked Veer’s wallpapers that much.

Better RSS 2.0 Templates in Expression Engine

In details:

  • The new template merges the feeds of different weblogs of the same website.
  • It solves the following issue: when a published blog post is being edited it reappears in the feed reader as new.
  • It solves the following issue: Feeds look unformatted at all. No paragraphs, lists, images etc. The new template shows the feed the way it should.
  • It shows the category and/or tags of the post. Both category and tags are clickable and transfer the user to the relevant areas of the website.
  • It brings the Tweetmeme button which shows how many times the post has been retweeted. Of course the button is interactive.

This new template has been tested in Google reader, NetNewsWire and Fever.

You can find it in the official Wiki of Expression Engine.

Please test it and make it better. You can add your comment here or in the Forum of Expression Engine.
